Since 1998, the proud members of the Spanish Timbrado Society of America have been promoting the Spanish Timbrado in America. Through its committed members and leadership we strive to educate regarding these precious song canaries as well as provide a forum where questions, support and camaradarie can be available to all who share our love of the special canary.
2011 was a very fruitful year for the Spanish Timbrado at the 63rd National Cage Bird Show held in Kansas City, Missouri. Timbradistas from all over the United States were present at this year’s show. Even those who could not make it to Kansas City sent their birds to participate. We had Three days of judging with a total of 177 well-bred Timbrados. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the vast improvement in birds and breeders from year to year. We only hope to continue this way and perhaps someday we will be able to compete in Europe or even worldwide. We have the blood and the know-how to train these amazing little creatures.

The board of directors held a meeting and in addition to other topics we discussed various methods to promote Spanish Timbrados in the United States of America in order to increase membership. Alberto Berrios asked the members to give their input on the different aspects of the Timbrado world such as transportation of birds to shows, breeding and many other areas. As members report back we will update our website to inform you.

This year we were very blessed to have J. Alberto Acedo Rodriguez, a very knowledgeable judge, join us all the way from Spain. Alberto was born in Spain and from a very young age his father, who also bred canaries and finches among other birds, introduced him to the world of feathers. Needless to say Alberto developed a keen ear and love for the singing. In the course of his life Alberto met Alvaro Guillen who taught him the basics about the Spanish Timbrado timbres and notes. Later on, under the watchful eyes and guidance of Francisco Nicolas and Anastacio Garcia, Alberto pursued apprenticeship to become an F.O.E. judge. In 1996 he achieved his goal and in 2003 he became an O.M.J. (C.O.M) judge. He has judged all over Europe, Colombia, the United States and of course at the National Show in Spain. As a breeder, Alberto has won multiple awards throughout Europe and although his time and space are limited the quality of his birds is well known in the Timbrado world.

Thank you Alberto for the attention you paid to every bird at the show, being a great friend and for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

Our champion Dorothy Eggers was unable to attend this year’s show, but as always she took care of all the arrangements for everyone in attendance. She was surely missed by all and we wish her a speedy recovery.

A special thanks to everyone who participated from the National Cage Bird Show, to Higgins for its continued support and sponsorship, to the directors of The Hyatt Regency Kansas City, MO for their patience and understanding of some feed on floors and a few feathers too, to our president, for his dedication, guidance and patience, to our treasurer, for making sure that all of the invoices have been taken care of, to Eider Ferreira, who once again did an outstanding job taking care of the bird room and having the birds ready for the judge. As you all know Lazaro Perez volunteered to take over the bands and membership, once again Lazaro, Thank you!

And last but not least a big THANK YOU! to all of us for participating, for traveling, for the sacrifices and for the friendships shared. We are a very special group, but then again, we are Timbradistas and that says it all!
